Andresen’s Seven-Point Night Guides Owls Past Vikings, 18-4

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Arianna Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) tallied four goals and three assists as Westfield State sailed past Salem State 18-4 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday night from Salem, Mass.

The Owls improve to 3-0 in conference play and 8-5 overall. The Vikings drop to 0-3 in the MASCAC and 2-9 on the season.

Westfield had a balanced scoring attack on the night with 11 different players finding the back of the net. Andresen needed just six total shots to score four goals. Mercedes Rozzi (South Burlington, Vt.) followed with three goals and an assist. Natalie DeMaio (Westwood, Mass.) and Samantha Dyer (Dover, N.H.) added two goals.

Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) registered six saves on eight shots, picking up her second win of the season. Sydney Smith (Dalton, Mass.) picked up two saves in the second half as the Owls defense allowed a season-low four goals throughout the contest.

DeMaio scored the first two goals for Westfield, then the Owls ripped off three goals in the final 2:11 with Andresen scoring twice along with a goal from Jessica Connors (Scarborough, Maine) opened up a 5-1 advantage after one.

Westfield held the Vikings to a single goal in both the first and second periods as Ashley D'Elia (Watertown, Conn.) buried a free position shot with five seconds left in the half, leading 10-2.

Andresen and Emma Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) tacked on two consecutive goals to begin the third period, increasing the Owls lead to ten goals where they would cruise to victory.

Westfield State will host #9-ranked Colby College from Alumni Field on Sunday at 11:00 A.M. in their next game.
