Lower Goal saves Lancers From Defeat

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's Soccer team traveled to UMass-Dartmouth  Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup, with both teams looking to grab their first win of the season.

It was the Corsairs who initially opened up the scoring in the 2' minute of action of the game with a strike from Joey Paiva (Dartmouth, Mass) but the Lancers would not sit by quietly as they found the equalizer just 10 minutes later with a goal from sophomore Brendan Lower (Grafton, Mass). Both teams picked up the urgency as the match progressed and generated  multiple scoring opportunities but UMass's sophomore goalkeeper Cole Travers (Somerset,Mass) made a plethora of key saves to keep the score deadlocked at halftime.

The second half saw a continuation of the same intensity that characterized the first half. Each team sent balls deep into the box and looked to work their way around a stalwart defense. The teams continued to pile on missed opportunities with shots traveling wide, as both teams searched for the game winning goal to no avail as the game ended in the 1-1 deadlock.

Senior Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA) ended the game with four saves, while the Lancers recorded 13 shots to the Corsairs 15, with four finding the frame.

Final Score: Worcester State: 1 UMass Dartmouth: 1

The Lancers now move to (0-2-3)(0-1-0) on the season and will play their second conference game of the season in Westfield at 12pm on Saturday.
