GORHAM, Maine. - The University of Southern Maine (USM) welcomed Salem State softball on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference doubleheader.  The Huskies completed the sweep by taking game one, 4-3, followed by a dominate 16-0 victory in the second game. The Huskies boosted their record to 19-7 while the Vikings dropped to 10-20.

Game One

  • In the opening inning, Madi Day (Otisfield, ME) delivered a base hit through the left side to notch the first run of the game for the Huskies.
  • USM doubled their lead in the second before the Vikings took the lead in the fifth inning, with Samantha Gaona (Billerica, Mass.) accounting for two runs when her single to right field brought home Isabella Perrotti (Winthrop, Mass.) and Alaina Giuliano (Malden, Mass.) to make it a 3-2 game.
  • The Huskies reclaimed their lead in the home half of the sixth after three hits brought around two runs to put USM up, 4-3, which would hold through the final frame to solidify the home team's victory.

Game Two

  • The Huskies exploded for six runs in the opening frame before adding another five an inning later, giving them the impressive 11-0 advantage after two innings.
  • A pair of doubles would spearhead the Huskies to a four-run inning before a single shot in the fourth inning gave the Huskies the 16-0 lead.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Hailey Ano (Pittsfield, Mass.) singled to center field, but that would be the sole hit of the game for the Vikings as the Huskies went on to shut out the Vikings, 16-0, in five innings.
