Women's Basketball Drops 62-47 Decision to Suffolk

BOSTON, Mass. – The Suffolk University women's basketball posted a 62-47 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Thursday evening at Smith Court.

The host Rams improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Bears fall to 2-7. Suffolk has won six of its last seven games.

Junior forward Jordan Hipwell (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and sophomore guards Natalie Fraioli (Sutton, Mass.) and Allie Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) each scored 13 points to pace the Rams. Lopes added nine rebounds and five assists, while Fraioli tallied two boards, two assists and two steals. Senior forward Alexis Hackett (Charlton, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and four blocked shots, while junior guard Jenni Rose-DiCecco (Falmouth, Mass.) corralled a game-best ten rebounds (four offensive), dished out five assists and recorded a pair of steals.

Junior forward Destiny Fitzgerald (Medford, Mass.) scored a game-high 14 points to lead the way for Bridgewater State. Fitzgerald connected on 7 of 12 field goals and added six rebounds (three offensive) and two assists. Sophomore guard Olivia Dziadyk (Wakefield, Mass.) checked in with 11 points, seven boards and two steals, while freshman guard Kylee Piché (Bridgewater, Mass.) notched eight points, three rebounds and two steals in 26 minutes off the bench.

The Rams held the Bears to just 15 points in the first half as the hosts held a 32-15 lead at the break. Back-to-back buckets by Hipwell to open the third quarter gave Suffolk its biggest lead of the game at 21 points (36-15) with eight minutes remaining in the period.

Bridgewater State got as close as ten points on two separate occasions in the fourth quarter including a 57-47 deficit following a Piché layup with 1:31 left to play. A Lopes three-pointer on the Rams' ensuing possession, however, thwarted any chance of a BSU dramatic comeback.

Suffolk shot 42% (24-57) from the floor for the game including 10-for-25 from behind the arc. The Bears connected on 34% (21-62) of their field goal attempts and finished just 3-for-16 (19%) from three-point range and 2-for-7 (29%) at the free throw line.

Bridgewater held a 41-35 rebounding advantage with a 17-10 edge on the offensive glass. The two teams combined for 46 turnovers with the Bears committing 25 miscues.

Both teams will have some time off before hitting the hardwood again. The Bears will take on Hamilton College and Nazareth College at the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee on December 29th and 30th. The Rams travel to Sage on Saturday, January 4th for a one o'clock game with the Gators.
