Lancers Drop Non-Conference Battle to Pilgrims

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Basketball team returned from Thanksgiving break as they are looking to break their three game losing streak as they travel to face New England College.  

 

Final: Worcester State: 56 New England College: 76

 

The Lancers and Pilgrims were in a back and forth affair for a majority of the first half as they held a close battle between the two squads. The Pilgrims were barely holding onto the lead over the Lancers as the teams moved into halftime with a 32-26 score. The Lancers opened the scoring two minutes into the game and would remain swapping leads with the Pilgrims through the first where the game where the lead would only ever swing three points in either direction most of the first quarter. The second quarter would see the Pilgrims begin to put a bit of difference in scores, but the Lancers matched the pace with New England College throughout the second quarter.

The Pilgrims, however, took control in the second half as they outscored the Lancers by 14 in the second half, including a 27-10 in the fourth quarter to solidy their victory. The Lancers were led by senior Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsborough, MA) as she led the Lancers with 17 points. First year Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) chipped in an additional 14 points for Worcester on the night. 

 

The Lancers return to the hardwood Saturday afternoon as they play Wellesley College in a quick trip down route nine to Wellesley, with a scheduled tip off time of 1pm.  The Lancers now sit at 1-6 in their opening non-conference 2023-2024 campaign.
