Field Hockey Drops Little East Opener to Castleton, 8-0

CASTLETON, Vt. -- Junior midfielder Gabriella Hunt (Granville, N.Y.) scored four goals and junior forward Loretta Blakeney (Barnard, Vt.) added a hat trick to lead the Castleton University field hockey team to an 8-0 Little East Conference victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Wolk Stadium.

The host Spartans improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Little East, while the Bears fall to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Senior goalkeeper Jillian Delaney (Foxborough, Mass.) recorded a career-high 20 saves between the pipes for the Bears.

Castleton held a 41-2 shot advantage and finished with a 13-1 edge in penalty corner attempts. The Spartans did not allow a shot until the fourth quarter.

Senior midfielder Megan Ryan (Middlesex, Vt.) and junior midfielder Allison Lowell (Brandon, Vt.) added two assists apiece for the Spartans who also received a goal from senior forward Cydney Jeffrey (Manchester, Vt.).

Senior netminder Tashia Pashby-Rockwood (Williston, Vt.) played the first 45 minutes in goal for Castleton to pick up her first win of the season. Pashby-Rockwood did not face a shot. Freshman Hope Brown (Lebanon, N.H.) came on to start the fourth quarter and made one save.

The Spartans travel to Skidmore College on Sunday afternoon for a two o'clock game with the Thoroughbreds. The Bears head to Anna Maria College on Thursday afternoon to take on the AMCATS at four.
