
Worcester, MA- In the final game of the regular season the Lancers look to lock up the number one seed into the postseason as they face off with Fitchburg State on a blustery and rainy end of season weekend. Worcester State Lacrosse (10-6, 4-1) controlled their own fate in today's game with a win today securing the Tuesday bye and home hosting rights through the playoffs. Today's game is also played in honor of their teams seniors which include Olivia LaValle (Peabody, MA), Emma Grande (Bridgewater, MA), Ashley Hurley (Agawam, MA), Ava Gesner (Norton, MA), Jordyn Collins (Peabody, MA), Hannah Erickson (Groton, MA), Abbie Wing (Griswold, CT) and their dedicated manager Olivia Fortier from Wakefield, MA.

How it Happened:
Motivated by senior Day spirit, Worcester State would be off to a good start as twenty seconds into the game junior Molly Witkowski (Greenville, NY) would open the scoreboard, two minutes in, Erikson would add another goal to the board, followed by a third goal scored by Wing. Fitchburg would try to cut the lead as they saw the net for the first time in the game, however the Falcons would once more see a three score gap as Wing made her second goal of the game. Stretching the gap even wider, Lancers scored yet another goal by Erikson and with two minutes of the period remaining Wing saw her third goal of the game. Unrelenting to see a win this game, Worcester State would make the final goal of the period by sophomore Madigan Kelly (Bourne, MA) 7-1.
Second period opened up with a bit of back and forth between the Lancers and Falcons, however Worcester manage to keep hold of the ball once more, landing the first goal of the period by junior Mckalya Fisher (Peabody, MA), just fourteen seconds later Erikson would add to the scoreboard and a following twenty seconds later with an assist from Kelly, Erikson would find the net once more, putting the lancers in a seven goal lead. Awarded a free shot opportunity, Fitchburg would create their second goal of the game. Landing another free shot award, Falcons would see the net once more 10-3. Worcester State puts the odds back in their favor as Wing scores her fourth goal of the game with Witkowski's third assist of the game. Nineteen seconds remaining, junior Abigail Vincent (Lakeville, MA) saw her first goal of the game. Falcons would sneak in and land the final goal of the period with just three seconds left 12-4.
Second half of the game, Fisher would be awarded a free shot that she took advantage of as she put another score on the board for the Lancers. Not missing a beat, Wing, with an assist from junior Shannon Donahue (Dennis, MA) would cause another 10 score gap for Fitchburg State 14-4. Steadily, Worcester State would keep finding the net, as Vincent slides another goal in for the Lancers. Determined to stay in the game, Fitchburg would land two goals in a row 15-6. However, Witkowski would follow right after with a goal of her own. Sophomore Kerry Brown (Billerica, MA) would join the scoreboard as she made her first goal of the game. With Twenty three seconds left, Witkowski landed the final shot of the third period with an assist from sophomore Meghan Bowen (Westfield, MA) bringing the score to 18-6.
Fourth quarter scoring would open up with a goal made by the Falcons, Fitchburg would be unsuccessful in scoring another goal from a free shot opportunity by a save from senior Olivia LaValle, Worcester State would regain possession, giving Vincent her third goal of the game. First year Kylee Fennelly (Weymouth, MA) found the net, putting the Lancers at their 20th and final goal of the game 20-7.

Worcester State (11-6, 5-1) will now await final brackets to determine who they will face in the semifinal round of the MASCAC Women's Lacrosse playoffs with game time set for 6pm on Thursday.
