WESTFIELD, Mass. – Emerson College got goals from Jason Karas and Owen Simas as the Lions stopped Westfield State, 2-0 in a non-conference men's soccer game in Boston on Tuesday night.
Karas tallied in the 36th minute to give Emerson a 1-0 lead. Westfield battled throughout, but Simas tacked on an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to cap the scoring.
Emerson led in shots (12-11) and shots on goal (6-5), but held a decided advantage in corner kicks, 7-2.
Westfield split the game in goal between Luke Theroux and Marko Kononenko, while Emerson's Becket Hobbs made five saves to earn the shutout.
Westfield is now 4-4-2 overall. Emerson improves to 3-5-2.b
Westfield State will return to conference play on Saturday hosting MCLA at noon on Alumni Field.
