Women's Lacrosse Falls to Coast Guard, 19-5

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting U.S. Coast Guard Academy women's lacrosse team posted a 19-5 victory over Bridgewater State University on Sunday afternoon at Swenson Field. The game marked the home opener for Bridgewater State.

Coast Guard improves to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Bridgewater State falls to 0-2. Coast Guard now holds a 4-0 lead in the all-time series.

Junior attack Addy Bass (Redondo Beach, Calif.) potted a game-high six goals for Coast Guard, while junior attack Sarah Skurat (Marlboro, N.J.) notched a goal and a game-best four assists. Sophomore midfielder Kira Howard (Wilton, Conn.) corralled a game-high eight draw controls.

Sophomore attack Melanie McClay (Plymouth, Mass.) paced Bridgewater State with a pair of goals. Sophomore midfielder Erin McIntyre (Tewksbury, Mass.) recorded six draw controls.

Coast Guard was in control throughout as the visitors scored the first six goals of the contest and led 13-2 at the break. Markers by BSU sophomore attack Camryn Gonsalves (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and senior midfielder Katie O'Brien (Pembroke, Mass.) to open the third quarter closed the gap to nine (13-4), but senior midfielder Gianna Cascio (Hunterdon County, N.J.) scored on the player-advantage less than two minutes later to jump-start a five-goal outburst as Coast Guard put the game well out of reach.

Coast Guard outshot Bridgewater, 28-18, on the afternoon and held a 17-8 advantage in ground balls as well as a 17-10 edge in draw controls.

Junior Devon McCue (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore Maici Mintchwarner (Cream Ridge, N.J.) split the game between the pipes for Coast Guard with McCue picking up her second win of the season. McCue made two saves, while Mintchwarner turned aside three shots.

Senior netminder Olivia Kerrigan (Braintree, Mass.) made seven saves in goal for Bridgewater State.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday evening. Bridgewater State entertains the Seahawks of Salve Regina University at six o'clock, while Coast Guard travels to Endicott College to take on the Gulls at five.
