Softball Splits with Fitchburg

GAME ONE:

FITCHBURG, MA: Rivier softball won against Fitchburg State University today in non-conference action on the road.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/26/23

- Score: Rivier 7, Fitchburg 1

- Records: Rivier (15-20, 4-6 GNAC), Fitchburg (11-21)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Falcons got the scoring started in the first inning with an unearned run generated by a sac fly.

- In the top of the fourth inning, Kylee Caetano (New Bedford, MA) launched a grand slam to put the Raiders up 4-1.

- In the fifth, Rivier's Alyssa Gerardi (Manchester, NH) reached first on a fielder's choice and Olivia Couto (Fairhaven, MA) crossed home plate from a throwing error.

- Caetano of Riv hit her second home run of the game in the top of the six.

- In the seventh Caetano was back at it with a single through the left side pushing in a run. Fitchburg was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh.

- Sydney Greeno (Shirley, MA) pitched the full seven for the Raiders, striking out four batters and taking the win. Sarah Cahill was tagged with the loss, striking out four batters for the Falcons.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Caetano was 3-for-5, with 6 RBIs and 2 runs

- Avry Nelson (Methuen, MA) was 3-for-4, with 2 runs

- Couto was 2-for-4, with 1 run

GAME TWO:

FITCHBURG, MA: Rivier softball lost against Fitchburg State University today in non-conference action on the road.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/26/23

- Score: Fitchburg 6, Rivier 4

- Records: Rivier (15-21, 4-6 GNAC), Fitchburg (12-21)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Kylee Caetano (New Bedford, MA) homered for the Raiders, in the top of the first. The Falcons answered back with three hits, collecting three RBIs.

- In the fourth inning, Fitchburg singled to right field, which gave enough time for a runner to score.

- The Raiders committed a throwing error in the bottom of the fifth which caused a Falcons run to score, increasing their lead 6-1.

- Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH) of Rivier hit a home run in the six inning, chipping away at the score.

- In the seventh inning, Miles doubled to left, sending Olivia Couto (Fairhaven, MA) home. Avry Nelson (Methuen, MA) followed with a single to left, forcing Miles home. The Raiders were unable to score again.

- Nicole Verette (Haverhill, MA) of Rivier was flagged with the loss this evening. Mary Kate Moreau of Fitchburg gained the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Miles was 2-for-4, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs

- Caetano was 2-for-4, with 1 RBI and 1 run

- Nelson was 2-for-4, with 1 RBI
