Worcester, MA- In the season opener for the Worcester State Softball team, they kicked off their action in a midday New England meeting as they faced off with the University of New England Nor'Easters, who had just started their season the game before with a 5-4 loss to Babson. They had expected to end the opening day versus SUNY Plattsburgh in some late afternoon action, but a late storm cancelled the afternoon meeting of the teams.
Final
Game 1
Worcester State: 2
UNE: 5
How it Happend:
The opening would find UNE scoring runs in their first four at bats to carry a 5-0 lead into the top of the fifth where the Lancers began to find their offensive groove. Junior Bailey Tammaro (Fitchburg, MA) would knock a double to right field that was followed up by another deep double by senior Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) in left center for Worcester to score their first run of the season. Junior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) would then record the second RBI as she drove home junior Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA). Sadly that is where the scoring would stall for the Lancers.
Despite the challenging match, there were some positive takeaways. Junior Carisa Andrews (Medford, MA) made a notable contribution by stealing a base, showcasing her speed and strategic acumen on the field while Lanpher made a diving catch in the game to cut off a potential charge from UNE. The Lancers' next opportunity to bounce back would be later the same day against SUNY-Plattsburgh at Legends Way. As they regroup, the Lancers hold a current record of 0-1, looking to make strategic adjustments and capitalize on their strengths in the upcoming rounds.
What's Next:
Worcester State (0-1, 0-0) will return to action tomorrow as they meet with MSOE and Eastern Connecticut State in their second day of Spring Break action.
