Falcons Fly Past Amcats In Non-Conference Action

Auburn, Mass. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Amcats of Anna Maria, 4-1 this evening in non-conference action from the Horgan Arena.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State took a 1-0 edge at the 14:20 mark of the first period when sophomore Michael Macchioni (North Kingstown, R.I.) connected on his third tally on the season, depositing a shot inside the far post on the power-play.

In the middle stanza, Anna Maria knotted the score at 1-1 early in the period as newcomer Bryden Sinclair (Peguis, Manitoba) received a feed from senior Michael Padgeon (Sellersville, Penn.) and put a shot into the back of the net for his second marker on the season.

The Falcons regained the lead six minutes into the final stanza with senior Wyatt Wilmshurst (Massena, N.Y.) buried a shot into the right side of net for his third score of the 2022-23 campaign off assists from graduate student Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, Que.) and senior Anthony Ceolin (Simsbury, Conn.) to make the score 2-3.

The Green and Gold upped the lead to 3-1 four minutes last when freshman Brendan Walk (Clarkston, Mich.) settled a pass from sophomore Christian Halbig (Queenstown, Md.) and struck for his first collegiate goal with the secondary assist by senior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.)

Fitchburg State secured the victory 11 seconds later with senior Hunter Fortin (Westerville, Ohio) notching his third marker on the year as Wilmshurst assisted on the play, resulting in the 4-1 final.
