Men's Basketball Closes Out 2023 with Loss to Baruch

SAINT MARY'S CITY, MD: Fitchburg State men's basketball fell to non-conference opponent Baruch in the St. Mary's Holiday Classic this afternoon. 

THE BASICS:

- Date: 12/30/23

- Score: Baruch 73, Fitchburg 61

- Records: Baruch (5-7), Fitchburg (2-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After a closely contested first half, which saw the Bearcats holding a 34-30 lead at the break. The Falcons would bring the game within two at the start of the second half on a pair of free throws. That would be as close to Baruch as Fitchburg would get, as the Bearcats would go on a few runs to gain them a peak of 18 points with 6:04 left.

- Devin Nicholson led the way for Baruch with 16 points and six rebounds. Sayeed Osorio topped the team on the boards with nine rebounds and fell just two points shy of Nicholson with 14.

Matthew Drayton (Boston, MA) topped the Falcons with 12 points while coming off the bench. Joshua Jean Charles (Dorchester, MA) found the most success on the boards, topping the team with eight to go along with eight points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting: Baruch shot 45.9% from the floor, 36.4% from three, and 56.3% from the free throw line. Fitchburg shot 36.4% from the floor, 30.8% from three, and 65% from the line.

-  Rebounds: Baruch 42, Fitchburg 35

-  Assists: Baruch 18, Fitchburg 11
