Lancers Conquer Vikings

WORCESTER, Mass. – Salem State women's lacrosse traveled to Worcester State University this afternoon to take on the Lancers for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup. The Lancers held the Vikings to just two goals to take the commanding 17-2 victory on the afternoon, dropping Salem to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in conference action.

Jenna Wells (Revere, Mass.) and Kenzie Currey (Bel Air, Md.) were the lone goal scorers for the Vikings. Defensively, Carmen Lieberth (Naples, Fla.) scooped up a game-high five ground balls while Nora Bradley (Haddon Township, N.J.) turned away 15 shots in the effort.

Shea Jarvis (Auburn, Mass.) led the Lancers with five goals while Molly Witkowski (Greenville, N.Y.) and Abigail Wing (Griswold, Conn.) chipped in with four goals apiece in the victory.

How It Happened

  • Witkowski scored two of her squad's three goals in the opening seven minutes to give the Lancers the 3-0 edge before Wells stopped the bleeding with a goal at the 5:32 mark. Bradley turned away the next two shots before Wing would find the back of the net twice in the final minute to give the Lancers the 5-1 advantage to head into the second frame.
  • Witkowski notched another two-goal stanza in the second to help her team record six unanswered tallies before Currey notched the Vikings' second goal at the 26 second mark to send the game into the break with the Lancers up, 11-2.
  • Witkowski notched her fifth tally of the game just a minute into the third before Jarvis scored three of her own unanswered goals to give the Lancers the commanding 15-2 lead to head into the final 15 minutes of action.
  • The Lancers would add two goals in the final frame to lead them to the decisive 17-2 MASCAC victory.

Noteworthy

  • Bradley's double-digit save performance (15) marked the freshman's ninth of the season.

The Vikings are back home this Tuesday, April 23rd for their regular season finale against the Falcons of Fitchburg State, where they will celebrate their seniors before the game. The senior ceremony is scheduled for 6:45pm and game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
