Westfield State Charges Past Colby-Sawyer, 92-73
Westfied State is now 7-3 on the season, while Colby-Sawyer dips to 1-8.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State got off to a hot start and rarely looked back in running to a 92-73 win over Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference men's basketball game in New London, N.H. on Saturday afternoon.
Westfield built a 15-point lead in the first eight minutes of the game, as the Owls connected on 6 of 12 three-point tries in the first 20 minutes and led 44-32 at the half.
Westfied State is now 7-3 on the season, while Colby-Sawyer dips to 1-8.
The Chargers never got closer than five points in the second half, the last with 10:37 left on a layup by Allen Mutaganzi, Jr.
Kenneth Rogers, Jr. led the Owls with 24 points and 10 rebounds for his fitth double-double in 10 games this season.
Four of the Owls five starters contributed double figures in scoring, with Angel Price-Espada netting 19, Lid Moreland 13 and Xavier Lewis 17. Lewis and Price Espada added 5 assist and three steals each
Bryson Jenkins led the Chargers with 22 points. Cha'Mar Martin added 17 points and nine boards.
Westfield closed the game with a 15-6 run in the final 3:01 to secure victory. The Owls were 6-6 at the foul line in that stretch.
Westfield will play at Johnson and Wales (RI) University on Tuesday night before closing out the fall semester schedule on Saturday at Lyndon (VT) State.
