Lancers victorious in Wheaton Tip-Off Classic

Worcester, MA - The Lancers took on the Wheaton College Lyons Saturday evening in the championship of the Wheaton Tip-Off Classic, looking to build from their 111-94 triumph over Hunter last night. Worcester had a slight lead at the start of the second half when Wheaton came back to put the score at 44 apiece with just over ten to go in the game. It wouldn't be until two minutes after when Senior Guard Zion Hendrix's (Charlotte, NC) three point jump shot, with the assist coming from Junior Guard Brandon Goris (Bronx, NY), broke the tie to give Worcester the lead again. The Lancers would extend their lead to double digits heading into the final minutes.A steal and a layup by First-year Guard Chris Paul (Everett, MA) in the final seconds of the game sealed the victory over the Lyons. 

 

FINAL SCORE: Worcester 73, Wheaton 55

 

Brandon Goris led Worcester with fourteen points, while Tristan Herry recorded a team high fourteen as well for Wheaton. Goris also led with six steals and tied with Guard Joe Nuttall with four assists each, while Herry led with four steals & Alex Carlisle recorded four assists for the Lyons. 

 

Graduate Center Erik Bjorn (Holden, MA) and Zion Hendrix led with five field goals made, on eight attempts from Bjorn and ten from Hendrix, who also went two for three on three point attempts. Wheaton's Khaled Thaher led the team with four field goals made out of six attempts, while Tristan Herry made four out of seven and also went three for four on three point attempts. 

 

This win brings the Blue & Gold to a 2-1 record on the season, while Wheaton drops to 1-1. 

 

The Lancers are back for their Home Opener Tuesday night as they face Williams College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm. #WeAreWorcester
