Worcester, MA- After rainy weather pushed back the conference start for Worcester State Softball (7-6, 0-0) the Lancers will remain non-conference today as they host Gordon College in a late afternoon meeting in a jam-packed week of Softball action.
Final
Game 1
Worcester State: 1
Gordon: 0
Game 2
Worcester State: 7
Gordon: 0
How it Happened:
Game one action would be slow to get started for Worcester as it would take until the fourth inning for Worcester to not only get their first hit but their first run. After senior Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA) was hit by a pitch to get on first a junior Emma Lapoint (Westfield, MA) would use her sacrifice bunt to move her to second and dropper into center for junior Morgan Keefe (Dracut, MA) would put runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly for senior Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, MA) would provide the first score of the game as Lanpher raced from third for the 1-0 lead in the fourth. Sophomore Taylor Coonan (Grafton, MA) would stay on pace shutting down any opportunity from the Fighting Scots as she would have the complete game shutout of Gordon and Worcester would capitalize on their one hit outing to grab the 1-0 win in game one.
Worcester would have a quicker start in game two as they loaded the bases early in the first with just one out with Lanpher, Lapoint and Koziol sitting on the bags. Junior Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) would hit a solid single to left field to open the Worcester scoring as Lanpher came home. Junior Amanda Adamuska (Dudley, MA) would repeat with her own single to left for Lapoint to come across the plate for a 2-0 lead. Senior Jordan Geloso (Rutland, MA) would then nearly clean all the plates with a dropping ball behind the right fielder that rolled to the fence for a triple to extend the Worcester lead to 5-0 with two outs.
The bottom of the fifth would again see the Lancers adding runs on the board as sophomore Cali Brouillard (Millbury, MA) would nail a double to center field to send Koziol and Gasbarro in for a two RBI double and a 7-0 lead. Sophomore Peyton Maloney (West Boylston, MA) would keep working the Fighting Scots as she struck out eight in the complete game shutout.
What's Next:
With a double reschedule date now on the books, the Lancers (9-6, 0-0) journey to MCLA tomorrow to take on the Trailblazers in their conference opener with the first game set for 3pm.
