Lancers Draw at WPI

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men's Soccer team travelled across town to take on WPI tonight in a draw. The Lancers found themselves in a defensive battle Thursday night, and capitalized off an early first half goal that bounced off two WPI defenders before finding the back of the net, to hold their stand and leave with a tie.

Worcester State forced an early own goal situation on WPI just 6 minutes into the game, putting their opponent on their heels. Though a short five minutes later WPI's Aaron Vaz managed to slide the ball past Dylan Ruberti, that was the lone goal the Lancer defense would concede in the match. After the quick burst of scoring early the teams settled into a back-and-forth battle with Worcester State attempting six to WPI's eight shots in the first half.

The status quo remained for the majority of the second half with each team trying to find a way to crack into their opponent's armor. It was not until the final minutes where WPI managed to rocket off a number of solid chances but Ruberti was a wall in net and set a career high eight saves in the game to help secure the tie for the Lancers.

Luke-Mark Anu, Jemal Mohamud, Marley Perez-Adler, Brady Iovanni, Ethan Escobar and Mal Hawkins all forced WPI's Roe Hendrick to be on his toes all night with a shot on goal each.

Worcester State and WPI both move to 0-0-1 on the season. The Lancers return to action on Saturday when they host Rhode Island College in their home opener at 2:30pm.
