Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior forward Bethany Bush (Littleton, MA) netted the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Bridgewater State College field hockey team to a dramatic 1-0 victory over visiting Endicott College this afternoon in Bridgewater.

BSC improves to 3-0 on the season with the non-conference win, while Endicott dips to 3-2.  The Bears are 7-9 all-time versus the Gulls since 1992 when the teams first met.

Bush tallied her team-leading third goal of the season with exactly three minutes gone in the first overtime period.  Freshman midfielder Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, MA) started the play in the offensive circle as she fed a pass to classmate Carissa Vizakis (Bellingham, MA) to the right of the net.  Vizakis then found a wide-open Bush who ripped a shot inside the right post.

Bridgewater had the advantage in play throughout much of the second half and overtime.  The Bears held a 12-7 advantage in shots as well as a 10-3 edge in penalty corners for the game. BSC did not allow a shot in OT and put all four of their shots on goal including Bush's game-winning tally.

Junior goaltender Katie Weber (Arlington, MA) notched her second shutout of the season and fourth of her career as she made five saves in net for the Bears.  Freshman Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, NH) made nine stops between the pipes for the Gulls who also received a defensive save in overtime from junior midfielder Delia McDermott (Shaker Heights, OH).

Bridgewater will look to make it four straight wins on Saturday as the Bears host Little East Conference rival Eastern Connecticut State University at 1 PM.  Endicott will also be in action on Saturday at one as the Gulls travel to Nichols College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference game with the Bison.
