Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match at Amherst

Hanna Nihill (Chandler, Ariz.) posted a team-high eight kills for the Owls, who fall to 3-7 on the season. Brielle Renwick (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a game-high 11 kills for Amherst as the Mammoths improve to 9-2 on the year.
Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashland, Mass.) added 10 assists to go along with 11 digs. Allie Hill (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) led the Owls with 16 digs.
The Owls put together a valiant comeback effort in the first set after the Mammoths led 24-15 to bring the game to set point. After a service error by Amherst, the Owls would score six consecutive points in the service game of Sarah Bingham (Reno, Nev.) which included a kill by Emily Washkalavitch (Oxford, Pa.). Rallying to just a two-point deficit, Charlotte Rasmussen (Los Angeles, Calif.) thwarted the comeback attempt with a kill to close the first set.
Westfield fell behind in the middle portion of the second set with Amherst tallying nine of the final 11 points in the stanza as well to secure a commanding 2-0 set advantage, eventually going on to sweep the Owls in the third set after jumping out to an early 7-1 lead in set three in which the Owls could not overcome.
Westfield State has three additional matches remaining this week, all in the non-conference slate starting on Thursday as the Owls travel to Anna Maria for a 6:00 P.M. start time.
