Women's Basketball Topped By Beacons In Non-Conference Action

Patch registers team-best ten points for Green and Gold

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Women's Basketball team dropped a 74-39 decision to the Beacons of UMass Boston this afternoon in non-conference action from the Clark Athletic Center.

 The Basics

How It Happened

1st quarter

Fitchburg State grabbed an early 4-2 advantage on buckets from sophomores Mikayler Patch (North Attleboro, MA) and Alexis DeSimone (Ashburnham, MA) before the Falcons upped the lead to 9-6 following a three-pointer from junior Allison Prentis (Mansfield, MA). UMass Boston would use a 13-0 run to end the quarter however, capped by a layup by grad student Keriann Farina (Arlington, MA).

2nd quarter

The Beacons upped the lead to 28-9 as senior Alexah Potter (Manchester, CT) connected on a layup, but the Falcons responded with a Patch bucket to make the score 28-11. Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 35-17 as junior Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA) netted a bucket before UMass Boston took a 41-21 margin into the break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, the hosts extended the lead to 54-23 on a Sophie Bradbury (East Bridgewater, MA) layup, but the Green and Gold answered back with back-to-back baskets by Hart to make the score 54-29.

4th quarter

UMass Boston upped the lead to 70-31 as freshman Maylina Santiago (Cranston, RI) netted a bucket. Fitchburg State cut into the lead with junior Kathryn Hart (Shirley, MA) and senior Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, MA) knocking down back-to-back three balls, but that's as close as the Falcons would get as the Beacons secured the 74-39 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Patch with a team-best ten points and three boards
  • Stephanie Hart added six points, eight rebounds and one assist for the Green and Gold
  • For the Beacons, Bradbury finished with a game-leading 16 points, six caroms, three assists and one steal
  • Farina chipped with 13 points, four boards, four assists and five steals
  • This afternoon's contest marked the 26th meeting between the Falcons and the Beacons on the hardwood with Fitchburg State 8-18 all-time when taking on UMass Boston
  • Fitchburg State shot 13-for-51 (25.5%) from the field and (3-of-21) 14.3% from downtown
  • UMass Boston went 31-of-74 (41.9%) overall and (6-for-24) 25.0% for beyond the arc
  • Beacons finished with a 41-36 margin on the glass
