LATE PUSH LIFTS LANCERS OVER SAINTS

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University Lancers bested the Saints of Emmanuel College in men's soccer action Saturday morning at Coughlin Field in Worcester.

Emmanuel's Joey Soucy opened up the contests scoring in the 28th minute of play, to give the Saints an early lead. Lancer midfielder Kristi Shore (Korce, Albania/Gjimnazi Themistokli Germenji) tied the game just over five minutes later on a feed from sophomore midfielder, Waseem Mahmoud.

The two teams exchanged chances, though the game remained at 1-1 deadlock until Matt Alzamora (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional) tipped a header past Emmanuel keeper, Vincent Conelli (West Hartford, CT). The go-ahead goal came off a Manny Ramirez corner kick in the 72nd minute of play. Ramirez launched a high ball in front of the Saints net and sophomore defender Matt Alzamora had a nicely placed header, redirecting the ball for the eventual game winner.

State's junior keeper, Dylan Ruberti (Westborough, MA/Westborough) had 10 saves on 11 shots, while Emmanuel's Conelli had 6 saves on 8 shots. The Lancers improve to 2-1-1 with the victory, while the loss marked the first of the season for the Saints.

The Blue and Gold will return to action on Wednesday, September 14th as they host the University of Massachusetts-Boston at 7:00pm. The Saints will host Johnson and Wales University the same evening.
