Lancers Downed By Wolves

Lancers Downed By Wolves

Worcester, MA- Looking to add another win to their tally the Lancer football squad (2-4, 2-3) journey to WestConn this evening to face off with the Wolves in a conference showdown. Both sides of the ball are prepped for a gridiron battle in the Saturday night meeting.

Final

Worcester State: 7

WestConn: 61

How it Happened:

The first half kicked off with Lancer's ball as they elected to try to put pressure on WestConn early but the opening drive would be stalled early with a sack on first down with a loss of 4 yards.  Worcester would work to reclaim the loss and grab a first down but their attempts would fall short. The Wolves received the ball and looked to capitalize on the 3 and out and they wouldn't have to wait long as Dae'Shawn Allen scored a 35 yard receiving touchdown on first possession. The Wolves would attempt to add an additional three points before the quarter closed but a field goal attempt wide would keep the score at 6-0 after the opening 15.

The second quarter would continue to see the ball in the hands of WestConn as they stretched the lead with a 7 yard rushing touchdown. With 6:07 left in the second the Wolves would put together a 6 play 79 yard touchdown drive, ending it with the first made extra point of the contest. The score: 19-0. WestConn would add a rushing touchdown with 3:38 to go while Worcester State would put together a 9 play 59 yard drive, but would get stalled after a miss on 3rd down, ending the first half with a score of 26-0.

The third quarter would see Westconn add a one yard touchdown and extra point to their collection, but this time the Lancers would answer back as junior Cam Ayotte (Millbury, MA) would go deep for 20 yards to senior Drew Von Klock (Walpole, MA) for the Lancers first points of the game. First year Manuel Freitas Dartmouth, MA) would be good for the extra point as the Lancers worked to eat into the WestConn lead at 33-7. Closing out the third would be a five yard rush for the Wolves to push their lead back up to 40-7.

The fourth quarter would add another seven points for the Wolves while Worcester would look to find the endzone for a repeat performance of the third quarter. While Worcester would make a strong charge to the endzone the possession would ultimately end with the Lancers forced to punt away. The Wolves would capitalize on the possession and push the score to 54-7 as the Worcester defense worked to stemmy the offensive pressure of WestConn. In their next bid for points, the Lancers would fumble the ball back into the WestConn possession and a quick score would take the lead to 61-7 which would be the final score as the horn blew on the game.

Junior Micah Haynes (Worcester, MA) would lead Worcester with 11 tackles while Von Klock would have five receptions for 39 yards and senior Nico Holmes (Mansfield, MA)  would break 100 yards rushing, going for 102 yards on the day.
