Lancers fall to Wolves on Breast Cancer Awareness Night

Worcester, MA - Worcester State wore pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month as they faced the Western Connecticut Wolves on a rainy night at Coughlin Field Wednesday. West Conn's late comeback & the difficult weather conditions resulted in a loss for the Lancers.

Senior forward Haley Mignon(Tewksbury, MA) led the Lancers with five shots, with one of them being Worcester's first goal of the game to put them up 1-0 24 minutes into the first half. Mignon's sixth goal of the season was assisted by First year midfielder Erin Condon(East Bridgewater, MA), her second of the season. 

Worcester combined for a total of 14 shots in the first half, while WestConn shot 7. 

 

Worcester only needed two minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Junior midfielder Haley Samara(Worcester, MA), her second of the season, with an assist from Mignon, her first. 

 

Worcester's 2-0 had held throughout the second half, until WestConn bounced back with goals in the 52nd & 70th minutes, tying the game at 2 apiece. 

 

The weather played a part throughout the game and became a factor in the final minutes, when WestConn's Myah Croze scored the team's third goal that slipped over goalkeeper Mallory DupuisLeominster, MA)' fingers. Despite the inexperience of playing in these conditions, Dupuis was a dominant force all night, saving 19 shots and going airborne multiple times. 

 

Worcester State finished the night with a total of 24 shots, with a final attempt hitting the crossbar in the waning minutes. WestConn recorded 26. 

 

The Lancers drop to 2-8-1 on the season, while WestConn improves to 8-4. 

 

The Blue & Gold hit the road this Saturday as they are set to face Bridgewater in MASCAC action. Kickoff scheduled for 5pm. #WeAreWorcester
