Lancers Fall to Knights in Second Match Battle

Lancers Fall to Knights in Second Match Battle

Worcester, MA- After a grueling battle last night to open their season against the Arcadia Knights, the Lancers Women's Ice Hockey team (0-1, 0-0) is right back in action against them looking to settle the score. While Arcadia took the 4-2 victory last night, a new dawn breathes new energy into Worcester.

Final

Worcester State: 5

Arcadia: 1

How it Happened:

The first period would get the action flowing immediately with a couple shots on goal by Arcadia setting a tone for an exciting match up. Worcester was ready to match this energy and forced a  back and forth period with great defense on either side that would make it hard for both teams to score, finding a 0-0 game at the end of the period.

The second period would open up the scoring as Arcadia would be the first on the board but would then soon after give away two penalties back to back giving Worcester a 3 on 5 advantage. With great communications and plays, first year Emily Johns (Clinton, MA) was able to put it into the back of the net with the assist of junior Lea Gaspar (Chelmsford, MA) tying the score up 1-1. Arcadia would shake off the penalty rust to respond quickly reclaiming their lead at 2-1 before the second period would come to a close.

The third period was similar to the second, Arcadia finding themselves in some chaos in front of Worcester's net when Maeve Hourihan found that open spot extending Arcadia's lead to 3-1. Worcester worked hard to lessen this lead but Arcadia would come out energized toward the end of the 3rd period with 2 more goals, increasing their lead even more making the final score  5-1.

Sophomore Lana Pacific (Marlborough, MA) would end the day with 55 saves after her work between the pipes.
