Lancers Battle Hard in Loss to Williams

Worcester, MA- Worcester State Men's Basketball hosted the sixth-ranked Williams College in tonight's home opener at John P. Brissette Court. Although the Lancers were able to keep pace with Williams throughout the first half, the game got away from them in the second, with Williams leaving victorious by a score of 79-60.

It was a game that the Lancers knew would be an uphill battle as Williams has cemented itself as a top-ten DIII basketball program in the country. WSU faced a similar challenge a week ago against eighth-ranked WPI and was able to stay competitive, and tonight's first half held a similar tone. At the end of the opening 20 minutes the Lancers were only down five points with a score of 29-24.

Williams blew it open in the second half with 50 points in the closing 20 minutes. It seemed everyone that came off the bench was making a difference on the hardwood. The Lancers showed glimpses of promise throughout the second half, but nothing sustainable as Williams made it through their first game of the season rather easily.

The Lancers were led in points by junior Ryan Rubenskas (Bridgewater, Mass.) who put up 12, and two Lancers led with six rebounds. The Lancers fall to 2-2 on the season, and will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Rhode Island College for an out-of-conference matchup.
