Comeback Ends Shy for Lancers at Seahawks

Worcester, MA- After two back to back overtime meetings this past week, the Worcester State Lancers (2-2, 0-0) hit the road to Rhode Island to take on Salve Regina tonight. Worcester is looking to grab their third win to jump above .500.

Final

Worcester State: 53

Salve Regina: 71

How it Happened:

The opening quarter would begin as senior forward Abby St. Martin (Putnam, CT) would drill back to back 3 pointers to get the Lancers rolling early. Senior Guard Katie Hurynowicz (Tynsgboro, MA) would shoot the jumper for two to give the Lancers an 8-0 run. Sophomore center Alana Smith (Chicopee, MA) would shoot a jumper and make it and push Worcester to a 10-2 lead. Good defense by the Blue and Gold would give them a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter would see the Seahawks open a 6-0 run and sophomore guard Hannah Lomonaco (Northbridge, MA) would join the party and score her first points of the night to counter the run. Worcester would get sophomore guard Mia Haynes (Worcester, MA) her first points as well and Worcester would trail at the half 33-21.

The Third quarter would again find Lomonaco to open the half with the first points. St. Martin would put up a jumper for two and try to get Worcester back in it. Sophomore Guard Lena Waldron (Quincy, MA) would go back to back jumpers to put her name on the stat sheet but Worcester would not be able to do much after and they would trail going into the 4th.

The Fourth Quarter would see Haynes drill a three pointer to begin the 4th quarter. Waldron and Hurynowicz would get back to back 2 pointers for the Lancers to open up a 7-2 run. Worcester would attempt the comeback but would fall just short as the Seahawks ran away with it and would nab the win over the Lancers.

Hurynowicz would lead the Lancers with 17 points while St. Martin would claim seven rebounds in the action.
