Softball Splits Final Day in Florida; Ends Southern Swing 8-2

Team Stats
Westfield State softball pulled out a split, topping Geneva (Pa.) College 9-1 in the second game of the day to post an 8-2 record in the first 10 games of the season, all as part of the trip to Naples, Fla.
Westfield fell 13-3 to Rockford (Ill.) College in the first game of the day.
Against Geneva, Westfield broke open what had been a 1-1 game late, scoring five times in the sixth inning and three in the seventh.
Alyssa Slack's RBI bunt single scored Arielle Ostman to start the scoring in the sixth, and Westfield got a 2-rbi double from Sarah Hough to help fuel the big inning.
Christina Ciampa drove in one run with a base hit in the sixth and two with another hit in the seventh.
Joss Mettey started and worked four innings of one-run softball, with Katherine Canty spinning the last three innings, shutting out the Golden Tornadoes while scattering four hits and fanning three to get the win and improve to 4-0.
Westfield sputtered in the first game of the day, yielding nine runs to the Regents through the first two innngs and falling behind 9-2. The Regents got three hits each from Neelah Vandeberg and Sophia Hulsey in the middle of the lineup. Starting pitcher Bella Lima worked a complete game, keeping the Owls bats off balance, scattering six hits, striking out one and walking none.
Westfield starter Angelina Vartuli took the loss, with Gianna Conte working in relief. Hough was the Owls lone repeat hitter.
