WESTFIELD, Mass. – Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass./Mahar) scored a pair of goals for Westfield State, as the Owls emerged with a 2-2 tie in a non-conference game at Castleton State on Tuesday night.
Westfield is now 6-3-4 on the season, while Castleton is 6-6-1.
Parker sandwiched her two goals around two from the Spartans. Parker tallied four minutes into the match with an assist from Morgan Berthiaume (Webster, Mass./Douglas).
Castleton responded with a goal from Maggie McKearin about seven minutes later to tie the match, then the Spartans grabbed a 2-1 lead with 13 minutes left in the half as Rylee Pepin scored with an assist from McKearin.
Parker closed the scoring in the 75th minute, again with an assist from Berthiaume to tie the match at 2-2.
Westfield tightened up the defense in the second half, keeping the Spartans without a shot on goal, and just three total shots after the intermission. The Owls split the game in goal, with Sarah Fuller (Weymouth, Mass.) making one save in the first half, while Kayla Santucci (Agawam, Mass.) did not have to make a single stop in the second half.
Parker now has 15 goals on the season and 81 for her career. Parker leads all active Division III players with the 81 career goals. She is edging toward the 200-point mark in her career, with 193 points. Parker ranked eighth in the nation in D3 in goals this season entering the match.
Westfield returns to conference play on Saturday as the Owls visit Framingham State at 11:00 a.m.
