Late Strike Gives Lancers the Second Conference Win

Worcester, MA - Worcester State's 2022 MASCAC campaign continued tonight in Fitchburg, where the Lancers captured a late 2-1 victory over the Falcons. 

 

FINAL SCORE: Worcester 2, Fitchburg 1 

 

The game stayed scoreless until the 67th minute, when Fitchburg's Gabriel Teixeira put the Falcons up 1-0, unassisted. The Lancers answered in the 80th minute, when Graduate midfielder Alexander Papageorgiou (Tewksbury, MA) put them back in the game with his second goal of the season, assisted by first-year midfielder Taylor Gavaletz (Dudley, MA). 9 minutes later, First-year midfielder Marley Perez-Adler(Heppenheim, Germany) gave Worcester the lead for his first goal of the season, assisted by first-year forward Brady Iovanni (Lunenberg, MA). 

 

Junior Goalkeeper Dylan Ruberti (Westborough, MA) recorded 8 saves out of 9 shots, while Fitchburg's Collin Robson saved 7 out of 9 for the Falcons. 

 

Worcester State recorded a total of 17 shots, while Fitchburg recorded 16. 

 

These two goals, 9 minutes apart, bring the Blue & Gold to a 4-2-2 (2-0, MASCAC) record this season, while Fitchburg drops to 0-6-1 (0-2, MASCAC). 

 

The Lancers are back in action on September 28th, where they will complete their 4-game road trip with a non-conference matchup against Curry College. Kickoff is at 7pm.
