Baseball Splits MASCAC Twinbill with Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University baseball team split a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader with Framingham State University on Friday afternoon at Bowditch Field.

The Bears (16-7, 4-2 MASCAC) won the opener, 12-0, while the Rams (11-9, 4-2 MASCAC) earned the split with a 3-0 victory in game two.

Game One: Bridgewater State 12, Framingham State 0

Matt Josselyn (Hanson, Mass.) tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout to lead the Bears to a 12-0 victory in game one. Josselyn (4-2) issued just one walk and struck out seven. The shutout marked the sixth of Josselyn's career as he tied the all-time program mark set by Scott Favreau in 2006 and equaled by Corey Batista in 2012.

The Bears stung together four hits in the top of the first inning, including RBI singles by Cam James (Ipswich, Mass.) and Dan Jasmin (East Meadow, N.Y.), to take an early 2-0 lead.

Bridgewater tacked on four runs in the fourth on back-to-back RBI singles by Kevin Lindsay (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Scott Emerson (Peabody, Mass.) followed by an RBI double by Riley Thornell (Wareham, Mass.).

The Bears capitalized on three walks, three Framingham errors as well as a passed ball to push across four unearned runs in the fifth inning and extend the lead to 10-0.

An RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly by Thornell capped off the scoring for the Bears in the seventh.

Emerson (2-4, SB, 2R, 2RBI), Thornell (2-4, 2B, 3RBI), Jasmin (2-3, BB, R, RBI)  and Joey Molis (Cumberland, R.I.) each finished with multiple hits for Bridgewater State in game one. Molis singled twice in five at bats and scored a run. Jay Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) reached safely three times with a single and a pair of walks. He scored two runs and knocked in one. Mathew Pigeon (Canton, Mass.) walked twice and scored a pair of runs.

The Bears finished with 12 hits and six walks in the opener.

Vincent LoGuidice (Billerica, Mass.) suffered his first loss of the season on the mound for the Rams. LoGuidice (3-1) allowed six runs on nine hits over four innings with two walks and two strikeouts.

Game Two: Framingham State 3, Bridgewater State 0

Scott Nosky (Dedham, Mass.) and Anthony Panza (Watertown, Mass.) combined on a two-hit shutout to lead Framingham State to a 3-0 win in game two and a split of the doubleheaders. Nosky worked the first four innings allowing just a hit and a walk with seven strikeouts. Panza (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he also gave up just a hit and walk while striking out five.

The Rams scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. A base hit by Shane Costello (Wilmington, Mass.) and an intentional walk to Ryan Boyle (Arlington, Mass.) put runners at first and second with one out. Robert Johnston (Watertown, Conn.) knocked an RBI single into right field to plate Costello and break the scoreless tie. Jimmy Gilleran (Mansfield, Mass.) followed with an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game. A base hit by Lucas Basile (Upton, Mass.) and a BSU fielding error accounted for the third run of the frame.

Costello (2-4) and Basile (2-3) each finished with multiple hits for the hosts.

Eric Longley (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded both of Bridgewater State's hits as he singled twice in two at bats.

Matthew Seavey (North Attleboro, Mass.) pitched well in the losing effort for the Bears. Seavey (3-3) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
