WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State softball won a slugfest against Wisconsin-Superior in the second game of the day on Monday to improve to 5-1 on the Florida trip.
Westfield rallied for an 11-6 win over the Yellowjackets after trailing 3-2 after one inning when UWS' Ellie Macal launched a two-run homer.
The Owls answered right away with six runs in the top of the second to go up 8-3. Katelyn Baker drove in two with a single and Hannah Wodecki had an RBI double in the big inning. Wodecki finished 3-5 at the plate, and Baker was 4-5 on the afternoon.

In Monday's opener, Westfield dispatched Alfred (N.Y.) State, 11-3 in a game shortened to five innings.
Westfield struck for five runs in the second to take control of the game, getting a 3-run bomb from Sarah Hough.
Hough was 3-4 at the plate with four rbi, while Abby Clark drove in three runs with a pair of doubles. Baker added a pair of hits and scored three times.
Joss Mettey (W, 1-0) worked four innings to get her first collegiate win, scattering six hits and three runs while fanning six. Angelina Vartuli cleaned up in relief with a scoreless inning.
The Owls are idle tomorrow, before facing Wisconsin-Superior for the second time on the trip, and LaRoche (Pa.) College, with both games at North Collier Park in Naples.
