Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 16-5 MASCAC Win Over Maritime

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior midfielder Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) notched four goals and two assists to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 16-5 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday night at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 8-7 on the season and 4-2 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers fall to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Bridgewater State is 11-0 all-time versus Maritime as the two teams first met back in 2012.

Langton added a game-high five draw controls for the Bears who also received four goals from senior midfielder Katie O'Brien (Pembroke, Mass.) as well as two goals and two assists from sophomore attack Camryn Gonsalves (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

Junior midfielder Cassie Llewellyn (Fairfield, Conn.) led the way for Massachusetts Maritime with three goals and an assist to go along with a game-high eight draw controls.

The Bears led 8-2 after the first quarter and 13-3 at the break.

Bridgewater held a 30-19 shot advantage for the game as well as a 14-11 edge in draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Olivia Kerrigan (Braintree, Mass.) and junior netminder Laura Giovaniello (Walpole, Mass.) split the game between the pipes for the Bears as the duo combined for ten saves with Kerrigan recording her sixth win of the season.

Freshman Sue Bird (Duxbury, Mass.) turned aside eight shots between the pipes for Maritime.

Up Next: The Bears wraps up regular season play on Saturday afternoon as they host MCLA at one o'clock. The Bears will also hold Senior Day festivities prior to the start of the game. The Buccaneers entertain MASCAC foe Framingham State University on Thursday night at seven.
