Lancers Make it Two in A Row in Four Set Victory Over Rams

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball was back in action tonight as they traveled to conference rival Framingham State for a non-conference rated matchup. The Lancers are coming off a four set victory last night over Anna Maria and looked to extend the streak while sending a statement out to the MASCAC for the season. 


Final: Worcester: 3   Framingham: 1 (26-24,25-17, 23-25,25-17.)



The Lancers looked to be charging to an opening set victory when a late surge by the Rams forced the Lancers to regroup before they came away with the 26-24 opening set victory. The Lancers were led by nine kills, 18 digs and five service aces from graduate student Camryn Burgio (Quincy, MA), while first year Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella (Simi Valley, CA) chipped in with eight kills, four digs and three aces. 

 

The Lancers jumped out to an early lead, winning the first two sets (26-24) and (25-17). They narrowly dropped the third set (23-25) before winning the final set (25-17).  The Lancers were assisted in the four set battle by senior Maeve Cadogan  (Waltham,MA) who recorded 5 kills, 2 assists and Junior Angela Colonis (Waterford,CT) who ended the night with 2 kills, 19 assists. Sophomore Kate Stedronsky (Sea Grit, NJ) contributed 8.5 points for the Lancers. Stella Bailey led the host Rams with 2 kills, 32 assists.


The Blue and Gold, who now sit at (2-2, 0-0) return to action this weekend when they travel to Trinity College for a double match in the afternoon. They are set to open play versus Mitchell College at 2pm followed by a 4pm square up with Trinity. Framingham State currently sits at (1-2, 0-0) on the season.
