Lancers Fall Shy in Comeback to Keene

Worcester, MA- After a back and forth battle on Saturday versus Bridgewater State, the Worcester State Lancers (5-5, 0-1) step out of conference to journey to New Hampshire to take on the Keene State Owls this evening at 6:30pm.

Final

Worcester State: 8

Keene State: 13

How it Happend:

The Lancers would open the scoring just 30 seconds into the game as junior Shannon Donahue (Dennis, MA) would charge through the zone for the opening goal. It would take three minutes for the bowls to answer back and just another minute further before Donahue would assist Junior Molly Witkoswki (Greenville, NY) for Worcester to reclaim the lead. The Owls would charge through the first quarter recording three unanswered before Witkowski would do the honors to senior Hannah Erickson (Dunstable, MA) to cut the score to 4-3. Keene would record one last goal to close the quarter for the 5-3 lead.

An early second quarter card would provide the Owls the man advantage for goal six and with that early momentum launched in number seven before Junior McKayla Fisher (Peabody, MA) claimed goal four for Worcester. The Owls would continue their run of three through halftime and into the third quarter to hold a 10-4 advantage. Two quick goals from Worcester from Witkowski and senior Abbie Wing (Griswold, CT) would bring the game to a 10-6 score before a final word from Keene would send the final quarter of regulation score to 11-6.

Erickson would note another goal for Worcester in a defensive heavy quarter for each team as possession and shot selection were the name of the game. With just under five to go the Owls would extend the lead to six before Worcester would record goal number eight from the stick of Witkowski to record the final game of the action.
