Men's Soccer Falls to UMass Boston, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Boston men's soccer team scored three times in the second half as the Beacons blanked visiting Bridgewater State University, 3-0, on Monday night at James Cotter Field.

UMass improves to 6-1-1 on the season with the win, while the visiting Bears fall to 1-6-1. The Beacons now hold a 10-8 advantage in the all-time series.

Sophomore forward Riven Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.) potted a pair of goals for the hosts, while junior forward Nilton de Andrade (Fogo, Cape Verde) also found the back of the net. De Andrade's goal in the 51st minute off an assist from junior defender Yuran Teixeira (Praia, Cape Verde) broke the scoreless tie. Rodriguez extended the UMB lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute and capped off the scoring in the 80th minute.

The Beacons held a 12-10 shot advantage for the game as well as a 3-2 edge in corner kick attempts. Of the Bears' ten shots, only two were on frame.

Senior goalkeeper Omar Castro-Deher (Woonsocket, R.I.) made one save between the pipes for the Beacons as he recorded his fifth win and fourth shutout of the season.

The Bears had their best chance to score in the 72nd minute. Castro-Dreher made an initial save on a shot by sophomore defender Liam Lenihan (Rockland, Mass.). A second shot was headed off the line by a UMB defender, but the ball managed to cross the line for an apparent goal. The goal, however, was waived off by the official after a BSU player made contact with the keeper.

Senior netminder Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) turned aside four shots in the setback for the Bears.

Bridgewater State was flagged for seven offsides in the contest.

The Bears travel to Westfield State University on Friday night for a seven o'clock MASCAC game with the Owls. The Beacons entertain Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at four.
