
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team wrapped up its two-game Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina with a convincing 18-7 win over FDU Florham.
The Bears improve to 6-1 on the season with their second straight win while the Devils fall to 1-2.
Bridgewater scored the first ten goals of the game and were never threatened. The biggest lead of the contest was 14-1 with 3:37 remaining in the second quarter.
Five different Bears finished with multiple goals led by a game-high five tallies from junior Meredith Sylvia (South Dartmouth, Mass.). Senior Erin McIntyre (Tewksbury, Mass.) checked in with four goals and an assist for Bridgewater while graduate student Savannah Herrington (Kinnelon, N.J.) also potted four goals. Graduate student Riley Bina (Abington, Mass.) and senior Camryn Gonsalves (East Bridgewater, Mass.) added three and two goals, respectively.
Freshman netminder Sara Skaff (Lowell, Mass.) got the start between the pipes for the Bears as she made five saves in 45-plus (45:42) minutes of action to record her fifth win of the season.
Bridgewater held a 34-21 shot advantage for the game as well as an 18-10 edge in draw controls.
Freshman Sophia Fleurent (Fairhaven, Mass.) led all players with nine draw controls while McIntrye corralled three draws.
Senior Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, N.J.) paced FDU Florham with four goals and five draw controls.
Two FDU goalkeepers combined for nine saves.
In upcoming action, the Bears entertain the U.S. Coast Guard Academy next Wednesday evening at six o'clock.
