Jumbos Skate Past Falcons

Fitchburg, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State men's ice hockey team fell to the Jumbos of Tufts University 5-3 in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Wallace Civic Center.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 3, Tufts 5
Records: Fitchburg State (6-6-2) | Tufts (5-6-1)

How It Happened

Tufts opened the scoring at 6:39 of the first frame. Sophomore Brennan Horn (Hartford, Conn.) collected a loose puck in front of Falcons' goaltender Christopher Mattone (New Windsor, NY) and wristed his second goal of the season giving the Jumbos the 1-0 lead.

The Falcons' evened the score with the man advantage. Senior Anthony Ceolin (Simsbury, Conn.) put back a rebound off his own shot ninety seconds later to knot the game at 1-1. Classmate Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del.) collected his sixth helper on the play.

Freshman Brendan Fennell (Melrose, Mass.) broke the tie for the Jumbos skating out off the face-off win in the offensive zone pushing the score to 2-1 after one frame.

Trailing 3-1 in the second, the Falcons' tipped the twine with a goal from Cole Archambeault (Leominster, Mass.). The junior put a nifty backhand past the Jumbos netminder as he came across the front of the net for his fifth tally of the season.

The Jumbos' would add a late second-period goal from junior Sam Miller (Milwaukee, Wisc) to take a 4-2 advantage.

Ceolin added his second goal of the game with a one-timer off the pass from Wyatt Wilmshurst (Massena, NY) to cut the deficit to 4-3 with 8:46 to play in the third. But the Tufts would add an empty-net goal resulting in the 5-3 final.
