WESTFIELD, Mass. – A pair of second half goals from Salve Regina broke a 1-1 tie as Westfield State men's soccer dropped a 3-1 non-conference match on the road Tuesday night.
The Owls fall to 4-5-1 on the season while the Seahawks in prove to 5-6-1 overall.
In the 32nd minute, Danny Bond (Bristol, Conn.) put the Seahawks on the board with his first goal of the season to give Salve Regina a 1-0 lead which held heading into halftime.
Two minutes into the second half, the Owls found the equalizer as Jacoby Authier (Holyoke, Mass.) sent a pass upfield to Coleby Andrade (Falmouth, Mass.) who beat Salve keeper Nick Giorgi (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) for his second marker of the year.
Shortly after the Andrade goal, Bond's attempt at a second goal was saved by Owls goalkeeper Berto Truoiolo (Springfield, Mass.), temporarily keeping the match tied at one goal apiece before Brandon Frank (Southbury, Conn.) would put the Seahawks in front just 3:20 after Westfield tied the match.
With just under 30 minutes to play in the second half, Daniel Goba (North Kingston, R.I.) delivered an insurance marker for the Seahawks, scoring an unassisted goal for his team-leading eighth tally of the season, which ultimately put the match out of reach.
Salve Regina outshot Westfield 16-11 in the game as the Seahawks defense tightened up in the final period, allowing just three Owls shots in the final 45 minutes. Marko Kononenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Truoiolo (L, 1-1) split time in net, both recording three saves. Gabriel Bazikas (Southborough, Mass.) picked up his second win of the year after registering two saves for the Seahawks.
Westfield State will return home for their next game as the Owls host Framingham State in a MASCAC contest on Saturday at noon from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.
