Field Hockey Falls Short to Owls 2-1

WESTFIELD, MA: The Rivier University field hockey team fell in a close match this afternoon to non-conference opponent Westfield State 2-1.  

  THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/21/21

- Score: Westfield 2, Rivier 1

- Records: Westfield (2-4), Rivier 1

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders got on the board first just 11:45 into the contest when Hunter Langley (Londonderry, NH) received a cross from Maegan Sheehy (Sabattus, ME) off a breakaway.

-  The Owls would tie it up 1-1 in the second quarter just 12 minutes later on a Kelsi McDevitt goal.

- The game would remain tied until Westfield was finally able to beet the Rivier keeper in the 56th minute of the game to get the final of 2-1. Cheryl Latona scored the game winner for the Owls.

- Katie Olsen (Saugus, MA) suffered her third loss in net but played an incredible game for Riv. She saw 15 shots on goal and was able to save 13 of them.

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Westfield 34, Rivier 1

-  Saves: Rivier 13, Westfield 0

-  Penalty Corners: Westfield 24, Rivier 0

 UP NEXT:

- Field hockey will be back in action this Saturday when they make their home opener. The Raiders will take on GNAC opponent Johnson & Wales at 4:00 PM.
