Women's Hoops Takes Down Fitchburg State on Senior Night

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's basketball team claimed a 64-44 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Fitchburg State University Wednesday evening on Senior Night at John P. Brissette Court.

With the win, Worcester State improves to 16-8 overall on the season and 7-4 in the MASCAC. Fitchburg State falls to 6-18 and 3-8 in the MASCAC.

Prior to the game, the Worcester State Athletic Department honored the six members of the women's basketball team's Class of 2020. Seniors Karalyn Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.), Sam Ellis (Grafton, Mass.), Mya Mosley (Worcester, Mass.), Shaye Lane (Dracut, Mass.), Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.), and Paige Senatore (Ayer, Mass.) were all joined on the court by friends and family for the ceremony.

Fitchburg State held a narrow 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a game-high six points from senior Angelina Marazzi. Worcester State was led by four first quarter points from Mosley.

Mosley began to take over in the second quarter, with a game-high 10 points to help her team to a 28-22 edge headed into the locker room. Sweeney recorded 11 rebounds in the first half, while also scoring five points.

The Lancers held Fitchburg State to just seven points in the third quarter to further put the contest out of reach at 46-29. Mosley poured in seven more points to again lead all players.

Worcester State closed it out with a strong fourth quarter to claim the 64-44 victory. Gallella scored five points in the quarter with two blocks, a steal, and a rebound. 

Mosley finished as the game's leading scorer with 24 points, while Marazzi finished with 18 points for the Falcons. Sweeney had 14 rebounds and eight points.

Worcester State will return to the court on Saturday afternoon for its regular season finale, traveling to Bridgewater State University for a 1 p.m. tip. Fitchburg State will be back in action the same day, hosting Framingham State.
