Lancers Shutout MCLA for Conference Win

Lancers Shutout MCLA for Conference Win

Worcester, MA- In a quick turnaround from last night's meeting with Curry, the Women's Ice Hockey squad (8-8, 5-2) returns to their conference schedule tonight looking to grab another win and solidify their standings at MCLA.

Final

Worcester State: 2

MCLA: 0

How it Happened:

After a delayed start due to a transportation snag and a brisk warm up the Lancers and Trailblazers hit the ice each looking to claim victory in the late night meeting. The first period was a true grit battle with the Lancers outshooting the MCLA but the Trailblazers stood tall to force the first period to end in a scoreless board.

It would take just over seven minutes into the second, and a still penalty flawless sequence of play for Worcester to grab their goal. First years Kate Harrison (Chelmsford, MA) and Emily Curran (Fall River, MA) would partner up for the goal with Harrison finishing off the job for the 1-0 lead. Worcester would look to expand their lead with five minutes left in the second when the first power play of the game was awarded to the Lancers but MCLA was not willing to concede more ground and held the deficit to just one.

The third period kept the same intensity of the first two with each team looking to gain ground in the game. Each team had their moments for success but defensive pressure around each opportunity was too much keeping the match at a single goal. With just over five minutes remaining Worcester would grab their insurance goal off a first year Avery Ireland (Longmeadow, MA) score after a slip from sophomore Madelyn Franta (Superior, WA). The Trailblazers would opt for an empty net with under a minute to go but the extra skater was not enough as Worcester claimed the 2-0 victory.

Sophomore Lana Pacific (Marlborough, MA) would have 17 saves in the shutout while the Lancers would rocket off 42 shots on the victorious night.
