Lancers Drop Tough Battle to Rams

Worcester, MA- The Lancers women's basketball team had a tough task ahead of them this evening when the 11-4 Framingham State University Rams paid Worcester State a visit. The conference matchup got underway as the second part of a mens/womens Thursday night double header at Brissette Court, and would provide a lopsided night cap.

Worcester State drew first blood in the first quarter in what would prove to be a high-scoring and tightly-contested opening 10 minutes, with the score settling at 21-19 Framingham State when play paused. Senior Elizabeth Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.), had a massive first quarter, netting 12 points for WSU, accounting for more than half their scoring, including a few key second chance put backs that kept the Lancers within reach of the Rams.

Framingham State would start to pull away in the second quarter, turning a two-point margin into a commanding 44-31 lead heading into the half. The Lancers could do little to stop the Rams' offensive explosion this evening, with the lead extended to 20 after the third, and a score of 77-57 displayed on the scoreboard when the final buzzer sounded.

Elizabeth Gallella would finish the night as the Lancers leading scorer with 14. Sophomore Abby St. Martin (Putnam, Conn.) paced Worcester State with seven rebounds.

The Rams head back to Framingham with a 12-4 record (4-2 in the MASCAC), and the Lancers head into Saturday afternoon's home game versus Salem State University at 2 p.m. now 3-3 in the MASCAC and 7-12 on the season as a whole.
