How It Happened

UMass Dartmouth opened the scoring 4:04 into the opening frame when freshman Matthew Zdanowicz (Lyndhurst, N.J.) found the back of the net for his first collegiate tally off an assist from sophomore Sky Silverstein (Riverhead, N.Y.) for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State knotted the score 1-1 50 seconds later as sophomore Oliver Cookson (Sheffield, Mass.) received a feed from junior Cole Archambeault (Leominster, Mass.) and deposited a shot inside the near post for his first goal on the season. The Falcons retied the contest at 2-2 with just one minute remaining in the middle stanza when senior Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del.) converted a power-play opportunity for his team-leading fifth score of the 2022-23 campaign assisted by sophomore Toivo Kramer (New York, N.Y.).

In the third period of play, UMass Dartmouth broke a 2-2 stalemate at the 16:05 mark as junior Michael Mania (Bayville, N.J.) netted his fourth goal on the season to make the score 3-2 before Fitchburg State rallied to force overtime (3-3) when Bergeman collected a loose puck in front of the net and put a shot into the left side of the net for his second score on the evening.
