The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 2, Anna Maria 1

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly took the lead in the opening minutes of the contest with sophomore Samantha Yates (Woodstock, VT) and classmate Olivia Narkevicius (Phillipston, MA) put a pair of shots on frame, but Anna Maria keeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, MA) turned aside both scoring chances to preserve the 0-0 stalemate going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Falcons grabbed the lead at the 39:24 mark as sophomore Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) received a feed from fellow sophomore Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) and deposited a shot into the right side of the cage for her second tally on the year for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State nearly doubled the advantage in the 54th minute of play when senior Sydney Alto (Chelmsford, MA) was awarded a penalty stroke only to have AMCATS netminder Carly Dedrick (Manchester, NH) make the save,

Anna Maria managed to tie the contest at 1-1 in the 56th minute as junior Carly Drew (Rochester, NY) converted a penalty stroke for her first goal of the 2023 campaign to force overtime.

In the overtime, the Green and Gold wasted no time securing the victory, with Tibbetts notching her second score of the contest three minutes into the extra frame off an assist from senior Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, NY), resulting in the 2-1 final.
