Home Conference Doubleheader concludes with another win over Salem

Worcester, Mass. - Worcester State Women's Basketball concluded this Saturday's doubleheader with a battle against the Vikings in MASCAC action at Brissette Court. Sarah Blomgren & Katie Hurynowicz were in the spotlight today as the Lancers took down the Vikings.

 

FINAL SCORE: Worcester 78, Salem 66

 

Worcester was in control in the first half, leading the Vikings by 17 points as the second quarter came to a close. Salem came into the second half strong and despite cutting their deficit down to just five towards the end of the third quarter, the Vikings were unable to take the lead and eventually fell to the Lancers. The Vikings fought hard towards the end and were able to come up with a free throw from Abuk Teng as the final scoring play of the game. 

 

Worcester was led by graduate center Sarah Blomgren (Lunenburg, Mass.) & junior guard Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsboro, Mass.) with seventeen points each, followed by senior guard Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.), who recorded fifteen. Blomgren also led the team with a total of twelve rebounds while Hurynowicz shot seven out of thirteen from the field and Gallella recorded two successful three-pointers out of five attempts. 

 

For Salem, the Vikings were led by Liz Zaiter with seventeen points and nine rebounds while shooting seven out of fourteen from the field. Zaiter was followed by Ernidia Goncalves with sixteen points and Teng with fifteen. 

 

This brings the Lancers to 8-12 (4-3, MASCAC) on the season, while the Vikings drop to 9-11(4-3, MASCAC).
