Volleyball Falls to RIC, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to host Rhode Island College on Tuesday evening at The Murray Center.

The host Anchorwomen (3-1) won by set scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-22. The visiting Bears slip to 1-4 with their fourth straight setback. RIC is now 9-10 versus BSU since 1994.

Sophomore setter Yuleisy Alvelo (Springfield, Mass.) paced RIC with a match-best 17 assists and four aces to go along with nine digs. Sophomore outside hitter Sarina Marines (Cranston, R.I.) checked in with six kills and ten digs for the Anchorwomen while junior middle hitter Andrayah Williams (North Providence, R.I.) added five kills and three blocks (one solo), and senior outside hitter Rhiannon Hodovanec (Feeding Hills, Mass.) recorded five kills.

Junior outside hitter Kim Gowell (Durham, N.H.) led the way for Bridgewater State with a match-high nine kills and a pair off assisted blocks. Graduate setter Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) dished out 15 assists and added three aces and ten digs for the Bears, while freshman middle hitter Charlotte Sullivan (Hyannis, Mass.) notched five kills, three assisted blocks and an impressive .556 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle hitter Lily Welch (Hanson, Mass.) contributed seven kills, six digs, a pair of aces and three assisted blocks.

In upcoming action, the Bears host a tri-match with Salve Regina University and the University of New England on Saturday starting at 11:00 AM. The Anchorwomen travel to Dean College on Thursday evening for a six o'clock match with the Bulldogs.
