Westfield, Mass. – Finn Welch (Williamstown, Mass.) netted a pair of goals as Springfield College (2-1) shut out Westfield State, 4-0 in a Saturday afternoon contest at Alumni Field. Welch opened the scoring in the 16th minute for the Pride, which was then followed by a strike from Derick Arhin (South Windsor, Conn.) at the 27th minute.
The Pride would tack on two more goals in the second half. At the 50th minute, Matthew Allen (Southwick, Mass.) made a sliding save on the goal line to prevent a goal, but the ball caromed back into the middle where Welch would deliver his second goal of the game. Koul Majok (Lynn, Mass.) would add a goal at the 75th minute.
Westfield State goalkeeper Emilio Mancuso (Ludlow, Mass.) recorded nine saves as the Owls were out-shot 25-5. Pride goalkeeper Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) saved both shots on net.
Westfield State (2-2) will look to bounce back this Monday as the Owls will host Western Connecticut at Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass. at 7:00 P.M.
