Worcester, MA- After a successful meeting against the MCLA Trailblazers last night, the Blue and Gold (3-4, 3-1) are poised to extend their win streak to four as the journey to Rivier University to face the Raiders. Last season, Worcester claimed the ECHA championship in a 2-1 OT victory in their last meeting.
Final
Worcester State: 1
MCLA: 0
How it Happened:
The opening period of action between the Raider and Lancers seems to follow the trend of their last meeting, with each team looking for the golden opportunity. Worcester would provide Rivier one opportunity off a penalty halfway through, but their penalty kill was up the challenge as they kept the Raiders off the board for the stretch.
Worcester State would get their own chance on the power play in the second period but it would come upon its conclusion that Worcester would grab their opening goal. Sophomore Madelyn Franta (Superior, WI) would open the scoring with just under two minutes left in the period off the stick work of sophomore Arielle Villandry (Westfield, MA) and sophomore Olivia Fehl (Sergeant Bluff, IA).
The third period would see a return of the back to back action with each team taking their chances to add additional scores to the scoresheet. While each squad put up their chances, defense was the name of the game today as Worcester State shutout the Raiders for their fourth straight win on the season.
Junior Kelsey Czerniawski (Chicopee, MA) ended the game with 38 saves in the complete game shutout.
What's Next:
Worcester (4-4, 4-1) will be back in action next weekend as they welcome Western New England on Friday, December 6th, at 7:20pm.
