WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior forward Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass./Mahar) scored a hat trick and goalkeeper Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass./Comp) recorded the shutout as the Owls blanked Keene State, 4-0 in a non-conference game at Alumni Field on Wednesday night.
Westfield picks up their first win of the year and improves to 1-2-2 on the season, while Keene dips to 3-2 and has lost two straight after a 3-0 start.
Westfield repeatedly beat the Keene defense with long balls out of the midfield or back. Just 9:14 into the match, Westfield's Gabby Stolfi (Newington, Conn.) booted a long ball from the deer right defensive corner that put Parker in a footrace to beat the last defender and tally the Owls first goal.
Parker added a second less than three minutes later, taking another long feed, this one down the left side, then juked away from her defender and beat the goalie to the far post.
Westfield made it 3-0 just 3:54 into the second half as Morgan Berthiaume (Webster, Mass./Douglas) slotted a long ball through to Kiana Muratsuka (Millilani, Hi.), then added a nearly carbon copy later in the match with another perfectly slotted pass to Parker to complete the hat trick.
Robak stood the test in goal, making eight saves, seven in the second half. Robak posted her seventh complete game shutout of her career. Keene generated several dangerous chances, the last on a blast from Isabella Moran (Round Lake Beach, Ill.) with about 20 seconds left in the match that Robak stopped.
Keene goalkeeper Riley Andriski (Newmarket, N.H.) made 12 saves, as Westfield out-shot Keene 21-9.
Westfield is back in action at home on Friday, hosting UMass-Boston at 7:00 p.m.
